Camden Markets

Camden Markets - photo from LeBonSensdesEtoiles.comOne of London's most popular tourist attractions, Camden Market refers to a collection of markets in Camden Town. It grew up around Camden Lock, along Regent's Canal, an early trade route. Today it showcases some of the world's most exciting clothes, crafts, accessories and bric-a-brac, and attracts up to 100,000 visitors each weekend. There are 6 sections, the main 4 being Camden Stable market, Camden Buck Street market, Camden Lock market and Inverness Street market.
The Camden Markets are the Londoner's destination of choice when it comes to original gift ideas, particularly if one is after unique jewellery for women, designer bags, vintage clothing, exclusive works of art, unusual toys and alternative fashion. It's a good place to hunt for antiques, homeware and novelty items too. You can also find furniture and rugs from around the world, or get lost in the labyrinth of stalls until you stumble upon the perfect leather bag, retro T-shirt or one-of-a-kind handmade vase.
Teenagers, tourists and trend-setters from all walks of life can be seen browsing for party gear at the weekend. Visitors to Camden Markets might end up with unplanned tattoos or piercings, and it is very popular with goths and punks, partly thanks to the legendary Black Rose, a shop famous for its alternative clothing, accessories and wigs. It's a fantastic place for people-watching and trend-spotting, and while Galliano is a Camden Market regular, one might even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of other world-famous fashion designers like John Paul Gaultier, Stella McCartney, Dolce & Gabbana or Giorgio Armani. Camden Market is an excellent place to go if you want to be the first to know about new trends and cutting-edge fashion.
If you look hard enough, and hunt long enough, you can find “cheap and cheerful” gifts and real bargains as well as top quality high range items. It can take time and patience, visiting numerous stalls, until you find the right item at the right price. It's not a place to go if you are in a hurry!
For the exhausted and hungry shopper, as well as for the adventurous foodie, there is an eclectic array of exciting pubs and restaurants to choose from – if you can find somewhere to sit, that is! There are also plenty of fast food stalls, or you can buy exotic spices, herbs and fresh produce.
If you don't have an entire day to spend on hunting for that perfect gift, though, check out our handpicked selection of the funkiest jewellery, clothing and accessories that Camden Market has to offer...
